OFFICIAL: Sundowns announce another new signing

Translate

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced the signing of Amajita captain Lazola Maku.

Maku joins the Brazilians on a free transfer as he was not attached to any team following his release from Siwelele FC at the end of last season.

Just last week, reports of Maku heading to Chloorkop made headlines in the media, and they have finally proved to be true.

The 19-year-old utility player had trials in Austria upon his release in an attempt to find a home for the current campaign.

However, he was unsuccessful, but he received a career lifeline when Raymond Mdaka included him in the Amajita squad for the U20 COSAFA tournament which South Africa recently won.

Having impressed during the tournament, the Sundowns scouting department recommended that he gets signed.

And Maku has now officially signed on a dotted line in what is believed to be a long-term contract with the African champions.

MAKU A LONG-TERM MIDFIELD SOLUTION FOR THE BRAZILIANS

At 19, Maku still has a bright and a promising future ahead of him, and he is seen as a long-term solution for Sundowns in that defensive midfield position.

The likes of Teboho Mokoena and Bathusi Aubaas are ageing, and Sundowns would need younger players to slowly take the baton from them.

As reported by The South African last week, the Tshwane giants are also expected to announce the signing of another midfield anchor Mendez in January.

The 29-year-old Ecuador international is far more experienced than Maku but he cannot be a long-term solution for the club.
