Pedestrian, motorcycle rider dead in separate accidents in Rizal


LUCENA CITY — A pedestrian and a motorcycle rider died in separate road accidents in Rizal province on Thursday, Sept. 3, police said.
The Calabarzon police, in a report on Friday. (September 4), said the a road mishap happened along Marcos Highway in Barangay San Jose at Antipolo City in the early hours of Thursday.
A 22-year-old motorcycle rider was traveling when he reportedly overshot the curb, crossed into the opposite lane, and crashed into a parked vehicle along the roadside.

The impact threw the rider off his motorcycle, and landed on the pavement.

He was rushed to the nearest hospital for his severe head injuries but was declared dead on arrival.
The police report did not indicate whether the rider was wearing a protective helmet, as required under Republic Act No. 10054, or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
Meanwhile, police also reported that a 35-year-old female pedestrian died after she was struck by a motorcycle at around 7:30 p.m. while crossing a street in Barangay Plaza Aldea at Tanay town.
The woman sustained fatal injuries and was brought to a local hospital before being transferred to the Rizal Provincial Hospital System in Antipolo City. She was declared dead on arrival.
Police said the kin of those involved were working toward an amicable settlement. /apl
