Prabowo orders transparent probe into alleged wiretapping

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto ordered National Police Chief, General Suyudi Ario Seto, to handle the alleged wiretapping of the Head of State and several state officials objectively and transparently, said State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi.

“The President has given instructions to the Police Chief to carry out the process as well as possible in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, as objectively as possible with nothing covered up,” Hadi said at the Presidential Palace here on Wednesday.

He explained that the case relates to alleged criminal acts of wiretapping, destruction of electronic evidence, and illegal access targeting the Head of State and several state officials.

According to him, such acts are a serious matter because they involve the nation’s leadership and sensitive information that could potentially endanger the interests and sovereignty of the nation and state.

“When we talk about the Head of State, the nation’s leaders, there is a lot of very sensitive information that would be dangerous, and such sensitive information could possibly endanger the interests and sovereignty of the nation and state,” he said.

He said the government does not yet know in detail the motive and purpose behind the alleged wiretapping because the investigation is still ongoing at the police.

He noted that the alleged wiretapping targeted not only the Head of State but also ministers, political party leaders, and organization figures.

“This intention has made us wonder, as the media also asked, what the purpose is. However, we are waiting for the details from the investigation process,” he stated.

Previously, the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) named three police personnel with the initials LSP, ASN, and EH as suspects in alleged illegal tapping, deletion of electronic data, and illegal access.

Bareskrim Head, Commissioner General Asep Safrudin, said at the agency’s building on Tuesday (November 3) that the three were named suspects after examining several witnesses and seizing several pieces of evidence.

After being named suspects, the three are being held at the National Police headquarters detention center in Jakarta.
