More Nigerians have continued to mourn the death of renowned elder statesman, educationist and pro-democracy advocate, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who died at the age of 100.

Pa Fasoranti died on Tuesday, October 20, at his house in Akure, Ondo State.

The Southern Senators’ Forum on Thursday extended its condolences to the deceased’s family, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, the Ondo State Government and people, the Yoruba nation and Nigerians mourning his death.

In a condolence statement signed by its Chairman, Adetokunbo Abiru, the forum described Fasoranti as a symbol of integrity, courage and principled leadership, noting that he remained committed to democracy, justice and good governance throughout his life.

It said the late statesman consistently advocated a Nigeria founded on equity, fairness and mutual respect.

The forum said his death was a significant loss not only to the South-West but also to the entire country, adding that his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development would continue to inspire generations.

“His wisdom, convictions and enduring contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey will remain a source of inspiration to present and future generations,” the statement said.

The senators prayed that God would grant his family, loved ones and the nation the strength to bear the loss, while granting the deceased eternal rest.

Also, the South-West House of Representatives Caucus described the late leader of Afenifere as a selfless leader who wanted the best for the Yoruba and Nigeria at large.

In a statement by the leader of the caucus, James Faleke, the lawmakers representing Southwest federal constituencies said the exit of the political titan had created a vacuum.

Faleke said the late centenarian would be remembered for standing for unity, justice and fair play during his tenure as the Afenifere leader.

The statement read, “Pa Fasoranti will be missed not only by the Yoruba, whom he led with dedication and forthrightness. He led without bias. His tenure was peaceful, remarkable and memorable.

“Pa Fasoranti rallied the race he led under one, united umbrella. He was not controversial. He was forthright in his dealings with his followers, and he earned their respect.
“Baba will be missed not only by his immediate Yoruba race; his absence will be felt by the entire country.
“Our condolences go to his immediate family, the Yoruba race and the government and people of Ondo State,” Faleke said in the statement.
An All Progressives Congress chieftain and former governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Kayode Ojo, described the late Afenifere leader as the true conscience of Nigerian democracy who stood to defend the cause of all without bias.
Ojo said Fasoranti “lived a fulfilled life defined by integrity, selflessness, courage and unwavering commitment to justice, true federalism and good governance.”
The APC chieftain said in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Thursday that “the death of the centenarian marks the end of a glorious era in Yoruba and Nigerian history.
“The passing of our revered leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, at the age of 100, is a monumental loss not just to Yorubaland but to the entire Nigerian nation.
“Pa Fasoranti was the true conscience of Nigerian democracy. He was a patriot par excellence, a custodian of the progressive ideals of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and a fearless voice who stood to defend the cause of the common man without fear or favour.”
