A 27-year-old woman has been charged after a police officer was shot in Nottingham city centre over the weekend.

Aisha Zaman, of Collison Street, Hyson Green, has been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of that firearm with intent.

She was remanded into custody and will appear before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Zaman is one of seven people to have been arrested in connection with the shooting in the early hours of Sunday morning - though no other charges have been laid.

A sawn-off shotgun was found at the scene on Angel Row, which is one of Nottingham's busiest and near the city's council building.

The unidentified officer approached two people acting suspiciously at a bus stop at around 4.50am - before being shot in the foot.

Security camera footage obtained exclusively by the Daily Mail showed the moment the officer was blasted in the foot - as terrified revellers fled for cover.

In the dramatic clip, taken from a business close to where the shooting took place, a woman can be heard screaming 'no, no…what the f***' while another woman, seen eating a takeaway, recoils and seeks cover in one of the few shops still open.

She is quickly joined by a third woman who is seen running across the road in terror.

The officer was treated outside a McDonald's before being transferred to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Images of the aftermath appeared to show the officer lying on his back with one foot in the air as he was assisted by security guards.

Two men, aged 24 and 30, and two women, aged 25 and 21, were arrested on Monday on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were also arrested on Thursday on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender. Both remain in police custody.

A cordon around the scene meant normally busy pubs and fast-food shops remained closed at the beginning of the week.

Nottingham East Labour MP Nadia Whittome wrote on X: 'My thoughts are with the injured police officer and his family following this truly shocking incident. We all wish him a full and speedy recovery.'

Detective Chief Superintendent Rich Bull, leading the investigation, said on Thursday evening: 'We would just like to take this moment to thank the public. The outpouring of support for the injured officer has been greatly appreciated.

'We continue to support him as he undergoes further treatment in hospital and are keeping him and his family fully informed of the developments in this investigation.

'He has asked for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.

'We have now charged a 27-year-old woman in connection with this incident.

'We hope this offers the public some reassurance.

'Our investigation team are still following a number of lines of inquiry to ensure those responsible are arrested, charged, and put before the courts.'
