Indonesia eyes more global markets for Bandung shoe maker: Dy Minister

Kota Bandung (ANTARA) - Deputy Trade Minister Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri is encouraging Bandung-based footwear manufacturer Fortuna Shoes to expand its export markets, saying its products are highly competitive in the global market.

"We are extremely proud because the quality of the shoes is excellent and they are competitive in the international market," Putri said during a visit to Fortuna Shoes in Bandung on Monday.

According to Putri, Fortuna Shoes currently exports its products to several countries, including Japan, the United Kingdom and various European countries.

She said the Trade Ministry would continue to support local industries, particularly labor-intensive sectors such as footwear and textiles, by providing assistance and facilitating efforts to expand market access both domestically and internationally.

"We at the Trade Ministry will always provide assistance and facilitation to ensure market certainty, enabling these producers to sell their goods effectively in both domestic and international markets," she said.

She noted that the support is also provided through collaboration with other ministries, including the Industry Ministry, particularly in encouraging compliance with Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirements.

Beyond market expansion, Putri said she hoped Fortuna Shoes' production activities would generate a multiplier effect for the local community through job creation and community empowerment.

She also highlighted the social impact of Fortuna Shoes, noting that more than 60 percent of its workforce are women and that some employees have worked for the company for 20 to 30 years.

"We also hope that the production process will create a positive multiplier effect for the surrounding community," she said.

She added that the government is implementing protective measures for domestic industries, including anti-dumping policies, to prevent an influx of imports that could undermine the competitiveness of national products.

Furthermore, Putri said Fortuna Shoes had an opportunity to expand its market by participating in Trade Expo Indonesia, an event that attracts buyers from various countries.

"We hope that by participating in this exhibition, Fortuna Shoes will have opportunities to expand into markets beyond the countries I mentioned earlier," she said.
