Gua Musang police: Six hikers feared missing after entering forest via Lojing and not emerging in Perak

KOTA BHARU, Sept 6 — Six individuals — four family members and two mountain guides — who entered a forest area through Pos Dakoh, Lojing, Gua Musang on August 29 are feared missing after not leaving at Pos Kemar, Perak as scheduled on September 3.

Gua Musang district police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said family members of the hikers lodged a police report in Selangor today after they failed to return from their hike on the set date, adding that checks with the Forestry Department showed that the last contact with the group revealed that they were in the forest area in Perak.

“For now, we are dealing with the Perak authorities to secure confirmation as based on their last contact, they were in Perak and no longer in Kelantan,” he said when contacted today, adding that the group had permits to enter the forest and engaged the services of two mountain guides.

“We haven’t conducted an operation in Kelantan as checks revealed they crossed the state’s borders. We are preparing if there are developments or confirmation that they are in the Kelantan area,” he said.

The police are also checking information about the vehicle used by the group, including the possibility they used rental vehicles or transport arranged by the mountain guides. — Bernama
