KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 — Police have detained 16 foreign nationals after raiding a hotel penthouse on Jalan Ampang where a “mini casino” was operating.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said the raid was carried out at 1.50am today, according to a Free Malaysia Today report.

“An investigation found that the penthouse was being used as a mini casino open only to close acquaintances, involving Chinese nationals only,” he said in a statement.

Those arrested comprised 15 Chinese nationals, including one woman, and a Nepali, all aged between 26 and 50.

Police seized 214 poker chips valued at RM5,180 in total, along with RM1,000 in cash.

The case is being investigated under the Immigration Act, the Common Gaming Houses Act and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants.

The suspects are due to be brought to the magistrates’ court today for remand.
