Pia, Alan Peter Cayetano to return to PH on Saturday-- NBI

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag on Friday said he has information that Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Pia Cayetano will return to the Philippines on Saturday following a trip abroad.

“I have information that they will be coming back tomorrow ata, tomorrow,” Matibag said in an ambush interview.

Authorities previously confirmed that the siblings left the country on Wednesday.

According to the Bureau of Immigration, there was no hold departure order or derogatory records against them that would prevent them from leaving.

Matibag said that though he saw no problem with their travel, the public cannot be blamed for reacting due to its timing.

“Kung nagbakasyon lang talaga, wala naman problema, no? But of course the timing, hindi natin maalis sa taong bayan ‘yung magkaroon ng mga komento,” he said.

(If they really just went on vacation, there is no problem, no? But of course, the timing, we cannot prevent the people from making comments.)

In July, Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said his office has turned over to the Office of the Ombudsman documentary and testimonial evidence it gathered on alleged anomalies involving flood control projects in Taguig City.

He has linked the alleged anomalies to Alan Peter Cayetano.

For his part, Cayetano has accused Lacson of initiating a “demolition job” over claims on the infrastructure projects in Taguig City— a move which the latter dismissed as “pathetic.”

The NBI is also looking into alleged anomalies into the during the Philippines’ hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

However, Matibag has said they are having difficulty linking the alleged anomalies to Cayetano due to the lack of a paper trail, noting that he was technically not the chair of the organizing committee. —VAL, GMA News
