Girl, 10, dies a day after being run over by lorry in Kota Baru

KOTA BARU: A 10-year-old girl has died after she was run over by a lorry while riding pillion on a motorcycle in Kubang Kerian.

Her mother, Nadja Aida Natasha Mohd Noor, 30, said Putri Nur Aishah Abdullah was pronounced dead on Monday.

She said the incident occurred on Sunday when Putri Nur Aishah was riding with her grandfather, Bakri Daud, 61, on their way home to Kampung Chicha after having a meal together.

Nadja said their motorcycle brushed against a lorry travelling in the same direction.

"My father fell to the left and suffered only minor injuries, while my daughter fell to the right and was run over by the lorry," she said.

She said her daughter was taken to Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kubang Kerian, and was in critical condition after suffering severe bleeding.

Doctors performed emergency surgery to insert metal plates into her pelvis to help stop the bleeding, she said.

Nadja said her daughter continued to bleed after the surgery, and doctors called her the following day to discuss a second operation.

She said her daughter's heart suddenly stopped for about 15 minutes during the discussion before doctors performed CPR and her pulse returned.

She said her daughter's oxygen level had dropped to about 30 per cent.

Putri Nur Aishah was buried at the Kampung Chicha Muslim Cemetery at 9.30pm on Monday.

Nadja said she had accepted her daughter's death but was disappointed that the lorry driver had not come forward to apologise.
