The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the incident occurred on August 23, 2026, at about 4pm.

According to him, the victim, Bello Umar, 22, a commercial motorcycle rider from Wasagu Village, Danko/Wasagu LGA, was found with a serious head injury at Tungar Dariya Bush, near Makera Village in Shanga LGA.

Usman said police operatives evacuated the victim to Koko General Hospital, where he was treated and later discharged.

He said investigation revealed that the suspect had hired the victim’s motorcycle from Koko Town to Tungar Dariya Bush, where he allegedly attacked him with a hoe before covering him with leaves, believing he was dead.

The suspect then reportedly fled with the motorcycle to Yauri Town.

The police spokesman said diligent investigation led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the subsequent arrest of the suspect.

He added that the suspect was cooperating with investigators, while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, described the incident as despicable and a direct assault on human life and livelihood.

Hadejia warned that the command would pursue and prosecute anyone who targeted commercial motorcycle riders or other law-abiding citizens.

He also commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response.
