Lecturers to resume as ASUU calls off strike at LASU, LASUED, LASUSTECH
Lecturers at Lagos State University, Lagos State University of Education and Lagos State University of Science and Technology are to resume academic activities immediately following the suspension of an industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The union announced the suspension on Friday in a joint statement signed by Olusegun Babalola, Coordinator of the Steering Committee, ASUU-LASU; Grace Abimbola, Acting Chairman, ASUU-LASUED; and Murisiku Onigemo, Chairman, ASUU-LASUSTECH.
The decision followed negotiations over staff welfare and outstanding agreements between the union and the Lagos State Government, TVC News reported Saturday.
“Our struggle for improved staff welfare and the implementation of vital academic agreements has reached a significant milestone, largely due to the collective support of well-meaning individuals and organisations,” the statement said.
The suspension is expected to bring relief to students and parents affected by the disruption of academic activities at the three state-owned institutions.

ASUU expressed appreciation to the media, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, students, parents and other stakeholders for their support during the negotiations.
The union particularly acknowledged the contributions of the Joint Action Front, Education Rights Concern and Campaign for Democratic Workers Rights, describing their advocacy as supportive of quality public tertiary education.
The lecturers also commended traditional rulers for their interventions and praised students and parents for their patience and understanding during the industrial action.
While directing its members to return to the classrooms immediately, the union reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and quality university education.
“As our members return to the classrooms with immediate effect, we reaffirm our commitment to academic excellence and quality university education,” the statement added.
However, ASUU said it would continue engaging the Lagos State Government to ensure the full resolution of outstanding issues relating to its members’ welfare package.
