Battlestar Galactica Officially Returning In 2027 With New Release

For Battlestar Galactica fans, the biggest question surrounding the franchise's future may no longer be whether it can return, but what that return should actually look like. Some longtime viewers would welcome another complete reimagining, while others would rather see the beloved 2000s continuity left untouched in favor of something exploring a different corner of the universe.

There are even plenty of fans who believe the acclaimed Ronald D. Moore series told its story so effectively that another reboot simply isn't necessary, and would inevitably face harsh criticism across the board. That debate has only grown more fervent after Peacock abandoned its long-gestating new Battlestar Galactica series in 2024, leaving the franchise without a major television revival on the immediate horizon.

That said, few science-fiction properties have reinvented themselves as successfully over the years, with the 1978 original eventually inspiring the enormously influential 2003 reboot. Now, Battlestar Galactica is officially preparing for another return in 2027, giving fans something new to anticipate while its larger on-screen future remains uncertain.

Battlestar Galactica is officially expanding its Colonial Fleet again, with Master Replicas confirming that four additional Limited Edition Battlestars are being developed for release across the second half of 2026 and into 2027. The company has yet to provide a complete release schedule, but its wording is significant: these are four further Battlestars, building upon a collection that has already expanded considerably throughout 2026.

Earlier this year, Master Replicas worked through a four-ship group consisting of the Pacifica, Columbia, Acropolis, and Rycon. The Rycon was particularly notable because, unlike several of the other releases that drew upon expanded material, it was actually mentioned in the original television series as Commander Kronus' ship. Those models joined existing vessels including Galactica and Pegasus, filling out more of the larger classic Colonial fleet.

Since Master Replicas made its July announcement, two likely members of that next four-ship wave have already emerged. The company is now offering Limited Edition models of the Cerberus and Prometheus, each restricted to 500 units and scheduled to ship in October 2026. Neither ship actually appeared in the original 1978 series, and Master Replicas explains that Cerberus, Prometheus, and Solaria were actually names that were intended for additional Battlestars, had the show continued.

This makes Solaria an especially compelling possibility for one of the remaining releases. Master Replicas has effectively grouped it together with Cerberus and Prometheus in its own product descriptions, so its absence is highly suspect.

The other obvious candidate is Triton. For reference, there were eight Battlestars referred to at some point in the original series: Galactica, Atlantia, Acropolis, Columbia, Pacifica, Pegasus, Rycon, and Triton. Master Replicas has previously stated that it intends to release models representing all eight, and Atlantia has already received a 350-piece Limited Edition release. That leaves Triton as the most conspicuous missing ship in the original-series lineup.

There are more adventurous possibilities if Master Replicas eventually looks beyond that original Battlestar Galactica continuity, of course. The Valkyrie, for example, would be a huge 2004-series choice because William Adama commanded it before taking over Galactica. For now, though, Triton and Solaria fit the company's current classic-fleet strategy, and either could potentially be among the Battlestars carrying the collection into 2027.
