RI sees stronger food sector as Prabowo govt marks two years: Bapanas

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that two years into President Prabowo Subianto's term, the national food sector has grown increasingly robust, driven by food self-sufficiency and strong collaboration.
"God willing, Indonesia will be in a better position under Mr. Prabowo’s leadership," Amran said in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday.
He noted that two years into President Prabowo’s presidency, reaching food self-sufficiency has become a vital stepping stone toward strengthening national self-reliance and safeguarding the country’s national interests.
Amran added that this positive milestone is the result of the hard work and collective effort of everyone involved in the nation’s food affairs.
The Indonesian government remains committed to strengthening the food sector through collaborative work involving all parties, while ensuring no parties profit by violating regulations.
Indonesia has achieved food self-sufficiency across eight key commodities: rice, corn, consumer sugar, broiler chicken, eggs, shallots, large red chilies, and bird’s eye chilies.
Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture is working toward self-sufficiency in three remaining essential commodities—garlic, soybeans, and beef—out of the nation’s 11 core staple foods.
The ministry continues to push for self-sufficiency in these three commodities through various production-boosting programs, aiming to rely entirely on domestic supplies and reduce import dependency.
The Bapanas head also stressed his commitment to taking firm action against bad actors who threaten Indonesia’s food security.
The government, working in collaboration with the National Police’s Food Task Force, has taken action against 102 suspects between 2024 and 2026 for practices deemed detrimental to national food security.
Most recently, in mid-September 2026, the government revealed that 25 fortified rice brands had violated administrative, nutritional, and quality standards.
Owned by 11 business entities, all 25 non-compliant brands have been pulled from the market to protect consumers.
