Rider dies after 'critical incident' during motorcycle racing event
A rider has died after a "critical incident" at a motorcycling racing event south-east of Adelaide.
SA Police said emergency services were called to a private racetrack at a motorsport event at Elwomple following reports of a crash just before 11AM on Sunday.
"Sadly one person has died and a report will be prepared for the coroner," a police spokesperson said.
In a statement, Motorcycling South Australia and The Bend said a "critical incident occurred" during a motorcycle racing event.
The Bend is a motorsport park about 100 kilometres south-east of Adelaide.
"The rider was treated by paramedics and died at the scene," the statement said.
The statement also thanked officials, paramedics and first responders.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the rider's family, friends and the wider motorsport community.
"We ask that the privacy of the rider's family, friends and all those affected be respected at this difficult time."
Motorcycling Australia said it was working with the "relevant authorities" following the incident.
