Sizekhaya reassures lottery players: Tickets still on sale and winners will be paid

Translate

South Africans who play any of the nightly National Lottery games can continue buying tickets, and winners will still receive their prizes, despite a recent High Court judgment concerning the awarding of the country’s Fourth National Lottery and Sports Pools Licence.

Sizekhaya Holdings RF (Pty) Ltd issued the reassurance following a judgment delivered by the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Pretoria, on Monday, 2 November.

Technical issue

The ruling followed review applications brought by Ithuba Lottery RF and Ringeta Consortium RF relating to the licence award process.

While the court referred a technical issue in the awarding process back to the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, for reconsideration, it suspended its order in the public interest.

This means National Lottery operations will continue as normal.

Lottery tickets remain available

Sizekhaya said the judgment does not disrupt the day-to-day running of the National Lottery.

Players can continue purchasing tickets, draws will take place as scheduled, and prizes will be paid to successful players as usual.

The company stressed that the court made no adverse findings against Sizekhaya on the grounds raised in the review applications.

Good causes continue to benefit

The National Lottery plays a role in supporting a range of good causes through the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF).

These include organisations such as old-age homes and children’s homes, among other beneficiaries.

The suspension of the court’s order means there is no immediate interruption to lottery operations or the distribution of prizes.

For players, the key message is that they can continue entering the draws without worrying that the judgment has put their tickets or potential winnings at risk.

Tonight’s PowerBall draws

Tuesday, 3 November’s PowerBall jackpot stands at a guaranteed R45 million, while the PowerBall Xtra jackpot has reset to an estimated R3 million after nine players shared the jackpot in the final draw in October.

The PowerBall and PowerBall Xtra draws take place every Tuesday and Friday on e.tv and SABC 2 at 21:00 (SA time).

Don’t forget, there will be Lotto draws on Wednesday, 4 November’s public holiday.

The Lotto, Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto 5 Max jackpots are R8 million, R2 million and R1 million, respectively.

The Lotto, Lotto Plus 1, and Lotto 5 Max draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday on e.tv and SABC 2 at 21:00 (SA time).

The Daily Lotto will also continue as normal.

Players have until 20:40 on the night of the draws to purchase numbers and are urged to do so responsibly.

No players under the age of 18 may enter.

The South African is the first to deliver Lottery results every evening. Check back at 21:00 for tonight’s results.
