Chet Hanks Confronts Eric André at ComplexCon Over Years-Long Feud

Translate

Chet Hanks finally came face-to-face with Eric André at ComplexCon over the weekend, reigniting a feud that has been simmering since their chaotic interview three years prior.

In footage shared by Hanks on social media, he can be seen approaching the talk show host from behind at the Los Angeles Convention Center and placing a hand on his shoulder. André initially appeared happy to see him, but the mood quickly changed as he turned visibly confused and could be heard asking, “What are you talking about?” Security eventually came between the two, with André directing a parting remark at Hanks’ father while walking away.

Much of what Hanks said is difficult to make out from the clip, although he offered his own account in the Instagram post’s caption.

“Finally ran into @ericfuckingandre , who apparently travels to ComplexCon with 4 security guards (because the environment makes him uneasy) and who had NO MEMORY WHATSOEVER of trashing me to the media after I outshined him on his own show!!” he wrote. “Until after being sheltered by his security team, began foaming at the mouth and admitted it was because he had a problem with me ‘mocking Caribbean culture’ when I did my Jamaican accent all those years ago. WHO KNEW that in addition to the brain rot and poop joke humor he is known for, Eric is also such a passionate cultural activist!!! Great running into you Eric!!!!”

The encounter comes more than three years after he appeared on the sixth season of The Eric Andre Show, which featured Hanks doing his polarizing impressions and leaning into the series’ deliberately unhinged format.

However, André later claimed the real chaos happened behind the scenes. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he described Hanks as “emotionally disturbed” and said he nearly injured crew members because of “dangerous behavior” that involved recklessly riding a stolen motorcycle on set.

“He tried to prank us back, but we edited out all his bullshit! He’s not well. How did Colin Hanks come out so good and Chet Hanks come out so bad?” he said.

Hanks subsequently took to social media and disputed André’s characterization, claiming he had watched the program after being invited on and decided to “match that energy.” He acknowledged riding a dirt bike, but maintained that he simply popped a wheelie before putting it down. He also accused André of resenting him for supposedly outshining him on his own show.

André responded by calling Hanks a liar and demanding a DNA test to prove Tom Hanks was actually his father. When asked a few months later whether the dispute had been manufactured to promote the show, he insisted the contention between them was in fact real.

“Tell him to say that shit to my fucking face,” he said at the time.

It took three years, but Hanks apparently took the challenge seriously.
