The Idolm@ster SideM Franchise Gets Film, 1st Console Game
The second day of "The Idolm@ster SideM 11th Stage ～Ever Ever＠fter～" concerts announced on Sunday that the sub-franchise will have a film, Gekijō-ban Idolm@ster SideM F＠ntastic Battle Fes ～Who goes first～, opening throughout Japan on November 20. The film will center around the titular F＠ntastic Battle Fes for the idols of the 315 Production agency.
Bandai Namco Entertainment is planning and presenting the film, and it is also credited as the original creator. Takanori Urui (ManaMoA) is directing the film at hotarubi/SIKAKU, and Zenta Yamazaki directing the CG. Asuka Fujimoto is the compositing director of photography and editor. Takatoshi Hamano is directing the sound, and Lantis is producing the music. Shochiku ODS Jigyō-shitsu is distributing, and it will offer both regular screenings and "cheering screenings" (when audience members are encouraged to shout and wave lightsticks) from the start of the run.
The event also announced the first console game project for The Idolm@ster SideM:
D3 Publisher and Bandai Namco will offer the game on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The adventure game has the player producing and scheduling 16 units with 49 idols from 315 Production agency in a brand-new story.
The original SideM smartphone game launched in 2014 and ended service on January 5, 2023. Like other games in The IDOLM@STER franchise, SideM is built on the concept of "idols you can produce." The app focused on the male idols at the agency 315 Production (pronounced "Saikō Production" or "Ultimate Production").
The Idolm@ster SideM Live on St@ge! smartphone game launched in 2017, but it began winding down service in January 2021.
The Idolm@ster SideM Growing Stars launched in Japan in October 2021, and ended service on July 31, 2023.
The first game's anime adaptation premiered in October 2017, after a prologue special about the three Jupiter idol unit members aired in September 2017. Crunchyroll streamed both anime as they aired.
Sumeragi launched The Idolm@ster SideM Wake Atte Mini! manga in 2016 and ended it in January 2018. Sumeragi's The Idolm@ster SideM Wake Atte Mini! Returns sequel manga then launched in Kadokawa's Dengeki Maoh maagazine in September 2018 and ended in January 2019. The sequel manga's one compiled volume shipped in March 2019, and bundled an anime episode. The first manga inspired a 12-episode television anime series of shorts that premiered in October 2018. Crunchyroll streamed the show as it aired.
