Translate

The chief financial officer (CFO) of a private university in Nilai pleaded not guilty at the Seremban sessions court today to criminal breach of trust involving RM6.56 million in company funds.

Elmu Higher Education Group Sdn Bhd CFO Noraini Aripin, 55, is charged with misusing the funds by making payments for purposes other than the payment of ad valorem duty to the Inland Revenue Board, Bernama reported.

She is accused of committing the offence at the university’s office between September 2025 and April this year.

The charge under Section 409 of the Penal Code is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, whipping, and a fine, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Syairah Aqilah Khalil asked the court to fix bail at RM100,000 and for Noraini to surrender her passport and report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission every month.

Lawyer Kelvin Ong asked for bail of RM50,000, saying his client was a mother of five and was undergoing treatment for stage-three breast cancer. He added that her monthly income was RM15,000.

Judge M Kunasundary fixed bail at RM80,000 and granted the prosecution’s requests. She also set Sept 21 for mention.
