'Dark cloud over results': Netanyahu questions Sohlberg's decision over election interference case
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party on Monday questioned a statement by Central Elections Committee chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg that, even if suspicions of foreign interference in last week’s Knesset election are substantiated, they do not undermine the integrity of the vote or its overall results.
“It is highly perplexing that Justice Sohlberg describes the allegations of foreign funding as extremely serious, yet simultaneously - and before the investigation has even concluded - preemptively determines that they have no impact on the election results,” read the statement, posted on Netanyahu’s account on X, formerly Twitter.
“A mere 4,612 votes stood between the shifting of a parliamentary seat from Ra’am to the right-wing bloc - a change that would have completely altered the election results and the political landscape,” the party added.
“We demand a swift and thorough investigation to safeguard the integrity of the Knesset elections and the sovereignty of the people,” the statement concluded. “Until the investigation is over, a dark cloud hangs over Israel’s election results.”
