Bali deports two Chinese nationals for unlicensed medical practice

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Denpasar Immigration Office in Bali has deported two Chinese nationals for illegally practicing medicine at a private hospital in the provincial capital.

Authorities identified the two individuals by their initials: QL (40) and LW (18), and detained both in late September 2026.

"Every foreign national staying in Indonesia is required to comply with prevailing immigration regulations," Head of Denpasar Immigration Office R. Haryo Sakti said here on Sunday.

"They covertly operated a medical practice at a private hospital in Bali without the appropriate residence permits and without valid medical licenses," he added.

The investigation was launched following public tip-offs concerning foreign nationals practicing medicine without authorization at the facility.

Officers from the Denpasar Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Division subsequently placed the hospital under surveillance.

Although the pair were not treating any patients when officers inspected the facility, authorities seized their travel documents and summoned them for formal questioning.

The investigation revealed that both had entered Indonesia in July 2026 on standard visitor visas. However, they were found to be working as medical practitioners at the private hospital without the mandatory work-stay permits (ITAS) or licenses from Indonesian health authorities.

Both individuals were deported back to Beijing and Wuhan for violating Indonesian Law Number 6 of 2011 on Immigration, which authorizes administrative sanctions and expulsion for foreigners who breach domestic laws.
