MANILA, Philippines — Only four of nine monitored dams across the country saw a slight increase in their water levels over the past 24 hours as many areas experienced generally fair weather after days of incessant rains, the state weather bureau said Saturday.

In its 8 a.m. update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the water levels of the Angat, Ambuklao, Binga and Pantabangan dams slightly rose, while water levels decreased at the Ipo, La Mesa, San Roque and Magat dams.

Angat Dam in Bulacan saw the biggest water level increase, rising 0.57 meters (1.87 feet), from 189.90 m to 190.47 m.

It was followed by Pantabangan Dam in Nueva Ecija, which rose from 189.46 m to 189.84 m, an increase of 0.38 m; Ambuklao Dam in Benguet, from 751.23 m to 751.58 m, an increase of 0.35 m; and Binga Dam in Benguet, from 574.31 m to 574.57 m, an increase of 0.26 m.

Meanwhile, water levels declined at the following dams: Ipo Dam in Bulacan, from 100.93 m to 100.12 m, a decrease of 0.81 m; La Mesa Dam in Quezon City, from 79.59 m to 79.36 m, a decrease of 0.23 m; San Roque Dam in Pangasinan, from 275.44 m to 275.23 m, a decrease of 0.21 m; and Magat Dam in Isabela, from 178.96 m to 178.91 m, a decrease of 0.05 m.

The water level of Caliraya Dam in Laguna remained the same at 286.40 m.

Pagasa said that one gate each of the Ambuklao and Binga dams was opened Saturday.

In its 5 a.m. weather forecast, the weather bureau said the southwest monsoon, or habagat, will bring rains in parts of Northern and Central Luzon, including the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, Bataan and Pampanga.

Visayas and Mindanao will see generally fair weather conditions, with a chance of thunderstorms. /das
