Orlando Pirates transfer news: Witbooi’s price tag, Matuludi left out in the cold

Orlando Pirates have already made nine signings this season, but the Buccaneers could still return to the transfer market for two more players.

One player who continues to be heavily linked with a move to Pirates is Polokwane City defender Thabang Matuludi.

The Bafana Bafana right-back has yet to make an appearance for Rise and Shine this season, with reports suggesting that he could have been sidelined amid growing speculation over his future.

Matuludi was part of the Bafana Bafana squad for the recent World Cup and, with his future at Polokwane City uncertain, it remains to be seen whether he will feature for the club this season.

Orlando Pirates have also been linked with Cape Town City teenage attacker Emile Witbooi.

According to iDiski Times, however, the Buccaneers have not yet made an offer for the highly rated youngster.

Cape Town City have reportedly already rejected an €800,000 (around R15 million) offer from Polish club Górnik Zabrze, who are owned by German football legend Lukas Podolski.

The Citizens are believed to be holding out for around €1 million (approximately R18 million to R20 million) for Witbooi.

“City remain firm on their asking price of €1m (R18M – R20M) and it remains to be seen if the Polish side will come back with an improved offer,” iDiski Times reported.

“Witbooi recently won the Motsepe Foundation Championship Players’ Player of the Season award following a magnificent season he had which led to City finishing in the promotion playoffs.”

Orlando Pirates might sign more players

While Witbooi’s performances have understandably attracted interest, it could prove difficult for Pirates to match Cape Town City’s asking price.

The 19-year-old has significant potential and, with European clubs also monitoring his situation, a team from abroad could potentially offer the required fee without much hesitation.

Orlando Pirates have already strengthened their squad significantly ahead of the new season, but Matuludi and Witbooi could yet emerge as two more names for the Buccaneers to consider before the transfer window closes.
