Bali Immigration deports Nigerian woman for 93-day overstay

Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - Bali’s Ngurah Rai Immigration Office deported a Nigerian woman, identified as IO, for overstaying her Indonesian residence permit by 93 days, an immigration official said here Thursday.

Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Head Novyandri said IO neither extended her permit nor left Indonesia after it expired on May 15, 2026.

“IO did not extend her permit or leave Indonesia, making her stay unauthorized,” he said.

Immigration records show IO entered Indonesia through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on November 17, 2025, using a visitor visa.

While in Bali, IO moved between several locations, including Canggu in Badung District.

During questioning, the Lagos-born woman said she could not return to Nigeria because she lacked money to buy an airline ticket.

A friend reported IO to the North Kuta police on August 13, 2026, for overstaying her residence permit.

Police handed IO over to Ngurah Rai Immigration on August 16, 2026.

After questioning and awaiting funds for her return, IO was deported from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport via Qatar to Lagos, Nigeria.

Ngurah Rai Immigration also proposed placing IO on Indonesia’s entry-ban list. The Directorate General of Immigration will decide whether to impose the ban.

“When a residence permit expires, foreigners must leave Indonesia immediately or extend it under applicable rules. Financial constraints do not remove that obligation,” Novyandri said.

He said Ngurah Rai Immigration would strengthen cross-sector monitoring of foreigners to ensure compliance with Indonesian immigration regulations.
