Translate

MANILA, Philippines — Fewer dams across the country reported an increase in their water levels for the past 24 hours as the southwest monsoon or habagat continues to weaken, the state weather bureau said on Friday.

In its latest updates issued as of 8 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the water levels of these four out of nine monitored dams rose: Angat Dam, San Roque Dam, Pantabangan Dam, and Magat Dam. Meanwhile, the water levels declined for dams of Ipo, La Mesa, Ambuklao, Binga, and Caliraya.

Meanwhile, the water levels of the following dams decreased: Ambuklao Dam in Benguet from 751.72 m to 751.23 m (-0.49), Caliraya Dam in Laguna from 286.72 m to 286.40 m (-0.32 m), La Mesa Dam in Quezon City from 79.86 m to 79.59 m (-0.27), Binga Dam in Benguet from 574.42 m to 574.31 m (-0.11) and Ipo Dam in Bulacan from 101 m to 100.93 (-0.07).

Pagasa also said that one gate of Ambuklao Dam (0.3 m) and two gates of Binga Dam (1 m) opened on Friday.

In a separate 5 a.m. weather forecast, Pagasa said that generally fair weather conditions are expected in most parts of the country as the habagat is expected to weaken until Saturday.

It added that Tropical Storm Saudel, monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility, may enter the country between Sunday and Monday, and may enhance the habagat once again. /mr
