Gremlins 3 gets an adorable teaser as it's delayed by nearly a year

The first trailer for Gremlins 3 is here, and it is absolutely adorable. It was announced in November that a third Gremlins film was on the way after more than three decades, originally slated for a November 2027 release.

That has now been pushed back to 2028, but never fear, as Warner Bros have treated fans to a first look at the eagerly anticipated film.

The short trailer focuses on a grey bag with a mogwai inside that slowly begins to emerge from underneath the lid, cooing away.

The trailer also reveals the film's new release date of October 6, 2028, almost a year after it was originally set to come to cinemas.

Gremlins 3 is set to be directed and produced by Chris Columbus, with Hannah Marks penning a script based on an original draft by Chris Columbus, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein.

The official title, plot details, and casting have not yet been revealed.

Announcing the news, Warner Bros Pictures' president of development and production, Jesse Ehrman, said in a statement: "Few titles are as beloved and iconic as Gremlins, and we’re beyond excited to bring it back for both lifelong fans and a whole new generation.

"It’s a privilege to be working alongside Steven [Spielberg], Chris [Columbus], and the entire creative team, and we look forward to audiences experiencing the next installment of the magic, mayhem and heart of Gremlins on the big screen."

Released in 1984, Joe Dante's Gremlins has become a Christmas staple, smashing the box office and garnering a cult classic sequel in 1990, Gremlins 2: The New Batch.

The original film follows Billy (Zach Galligan), a teen who receives a mysterious new pet that comes with two rules: Never get the mogwai wet and never feed it after midnight. But those rules get broken, and the transformed creatures wreak havoc across his small town.

Gremlins 3 will be released in cinemas on October 6, 2028.
