Jakarta Governor cites mega events as proof of economic resilience

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung asserted that a succession of high-profile international concerts and major sporting events demonstrates the capital’s macroeconomic resilience amid global economic pressures.

Speaking here on Sunday, Pramono pointed to a surge in large-scale entertainment and athletic gatherings as a testament to the city's financial vitality and drawing power.

"What I am pleased about is that, from a macroeconomic perspective, Jakarta is doing well—even while the rest of the world is facing significant pressure," Pramono told reporters.

He highlighted several flagship events that have recently anchored Jakarta's event calendar, including the Jakarta Running Festival (JRF) held from October 24–25, which drew extraordinary enthusiasm from domestic and international participants alike.

The governor also pointed to the "Ye Live in Jakarta 2026" concert by global rapper Kanye West, which successfully attracted approximately 60,000 attendees, including roughly 30,000 foreign visitors.

"Last night there was a concert by 'Ye'. About 60,000 people attended, 30,000 of whom were foreigners. Something like this has never happened before," he remarked.

In addition, Pramono noted that concerts by artists such as The Weeknd and the Pestapora music festival have significantly contributed to the local economy.

The Pestapora event in Kemayoran alone generated an economic transaction turnover exceeding Rp250 billion (approximately US$13.8 million).

Pramono's optimism is supported by recent data showing Jakarta’s economic growth reaching 5.52 percent, outperforming the national economic growth rate of 5.29 percent.

According to the governor, this achievement demonstrates that Jakarta’s economy remains capable of robust growth despite geopolitical pressures and global economic uncertainty.

"Given this, and frankly, despite the significant economic pressures currently facing the Jakarta administration, we are pursuing breakthroughs to continue developing the city," Pramono added.
