The NTRA issues order to double Egypt’s base internet package capacity at no extra cost

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) issued executive instructions to fixed-line internet service providers to double the capacity of their base subscription package—priced at LE 150— from 50 GB to 100 GB, without any increase in the subscription fee.

This change will take effect starting November 1st.

This initiative aligns with directives from the president to the government, aimed at providing citizens with accessible options for telecommunications services.

The goal is to facilitate broader public access to digital government services and support the national digital transformation process.

In May, the NTRA introduced a new fixed-line internet package offering 50 GB for LE150. Designed for users with lower consumption needs, this package was intended to promote digital inclusion and expand the user base.

The CEO of the NTRA, Mohamed Shamroukh, said that ordering companies to offer this package reflects the NTRA’s role as both a regulator of the sector and a facilitator of its services.

He explained that the initiative “aims to enable families to access high-quality telecommunications services at an affordable cost, thereby supporting their integration into the digital society and enhancing their quality of life.”

In line with its regulatory mandate, the NTRA continues to monitor the implementation of this initiative by service providers, ensuring that the new package reaches its intended beneficiaries in accordance with the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

This underscores its role in guiding sector policies and ensuring the execution of national initiatives.

An official source within the sector confirmed that companies are committed to providing the service at the same price, with no new fees of any kind.

The source added that companies have received clear instructions to implement the decision to double the capacity of basic data packages at no additional cost.

This initiative aims to enable Egyptian families to access the internet and utilize various services without any price increases.

According to the source, the objective is to improve the quality of digital life for citizens and enhance the competitiveness of the knowledge-based economy, as part of the broader plan to build a “Digital Egypt.”
