David Corenswet’s Next 2026 Movie Is Perfect For Superman Fans (But It’s Not A DC Film)

David Corenswet's next and final 2026 movie is one that seems in many ways perfect for fans of Superman and his role thus far as the DC Universe's Man of Steel, even though it's not part of the cinematic universe, or a superhero movie more broadly speaking. While David Corenswet's career contained some major movie and show roles before his casting as one of the biggest superheroes of all time, it's fair to say the actor taking on the casting is one that's skyrocketed him into even more fame than ever before.

With David Corenswet set to play Superman for the foreseeable future thanks to the DCU timeline, it seems that much of his next movie work will be in the superhero role, particularly given Superman is an effective figure to use to tie the overarching pieces of the new universe together narratively for audiences.

However, this isn't to say that the only movies Superman fans should watch are within the DCU. Indeed, David Corenswet's next movie - which is set to release on Christmas 2026 - seems to have much in common with the actor's time and performance as Superman thus far, meaning it looks as though it could also be well worth a watch for those who loved seeing the actor take on the role of Kal-El thus far.

Mr. Irrelevant Is Also An Underdog Story Featuring A Famous American Inspiration

While Superman can shoot lasers from his eyes and fly, the story of 2025's Superman was still an underdog story of sorts, as the hero fought hard to balance the immense demands of his civilian life as Clark Kent and his superhero career as the Man of Steel, and to deal with the distrust others slung his way because of his lot in life.

While the real-life story of John Tuggle involved no superpowers, it does involve a figure whose life story enters into not dissimilar territory, going some way to explain why Tuggle's life is set to be adapted this December into the movie narrative of Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story, which will see David Corenswet take on the football player's role.

Nicknamed "Mr. Irrelevant" because he was last pick in the last round of the 1983 NFL draft, where he was by the Giants, Tuggle's story initially seemed like one that could fly by fans of the American football scene. However, Tuggle would go on to have some notable success in the NFL after this, later being voted as special teams player of the year by his team, though his career would be sadly cut short due to his later cancer diagnosis.

John Tuggle would continue to be an important figure for the Giants, though, with praise being given to his determination even after his diagnosis, and the team paying for his medical treatment up until his death in 1986, as well as then going on to wear his number - 38 - on their helmets in 1986 in their Super Bowl winning season, meaning Tuggle would be an integral presence in this victory for them.

After Superman, David Corenswet Is Officially The Perfect Casting For John Tuggle

The life of John Tuggle is an inspirational American story of how perseverance and heart can be recognized by and inspire others, which certainly gives the film version of the character some big shoes for an actor to take on. Interestingly enough, though, David Corenswet being hot off the presses from his in many ways similar role as Superman in both Superman and Supergirl for the DCU means that he should be well versed in the kind of acting demands this role would seem to require from him.

Since David Corenswet was able to imbue his depiction of Kal-El with equal parts humbleness, hope, and sheer determination, it stands to reason he can bring those same attributes to his performance in Mr. Irrelevant, with his role as Superman acting in some ways as training for the December 2026 film.
