GEORGE TOWN, Oct 25 — A man was confirmed dead after being buried in a landslide that affected a house in Taman Seri Rambai, Paya Terubong here today.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said it received an emergency call at 8.36am and a team from the Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, we found that the landslide had affected the back section of a house, and initial reports indicated that three people, believed to be occupants of the house, were involved in the incident.

“Two of them managed to save themselves, while the third was believed to be trapped and buried, before being confirmed dead at 9.10am by Health Ministry personnel at the scene,” he said in a statement today.

He said that as of 9.45am, firefighters were working to extricate the victim from under the rubble.

The operation involved seven firefighters, including a supervisor, as well as a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit, with assistance from the police. — Bernama
