Who is Bel Zamora in Sara Duterte's impeachment trial?

House prosecutor and San Juan Rep. Bel Zamora drew misogynistic remarks online after a clip of her cross-examining a witness during Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial went viral.

On Day 30 of the impeachment trial, Zamora conducted the direct examination on prosecution witness P/Maj. Jerikson Sangalang, chief of the Records Division of the Philippine National Police Firearms and Explosives Office.

Sangalang testified that Duterte had 22 firearms registered under her name.

In response to online detractors, Zamora brushed off the negative comments about her questioning style, saying her critics perhaps simply could not handle her sass and style.

“Siguro, they can't handle sass, they can't handle style. And well, really, I don't care if they bash me. I'm here to do my job,” Zamora said.

“Let's see. Yun lang (That's all). I mean, seriously, they should get a life,” she added.

Who is Bel Zamora?

Zamora is also known by her full name, Ysabel Maria Jorge Zamora-Jornada.

She is the representative of the lone district of San Juan City in the House of Representatives. She succeeded her father, Ronaldo Zamora, after winning the seat in the 2022 elections.

Zamora is a lawyer who was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2009.

In 2004, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of the Philippines Diliman, where she graduated cum laude (with honors).

Before joining Congress, Zamora was a partner at Zamora and Poblador Law Office, where she specialized in litigation and handled family, civil, criminal and corporate law cases.— MCG, GMA News
