Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) seized hundreds of millions of rupiah in a sting operation involving officials at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) in Purwokerto, Banyumas District, Central Java, KPK Spokesman Budi Prasetyo said.

"The evidence secured includes hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash," Prasetyo told reporters in Jakarta on Friday morning.

KPK also arrested 12 people in Purwokerto and two others in Jakarta on Thursday (August 20).

"The 12 people detained in Purwokerto underwent initial questioning at the Banyumas police station. Seven were later taken to Jakarta for further questioning," Prasetyo said.

The two people arrested in Jakarta were immediately questioned intensively at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta. Nine people are therefore undergoing intensive questioning by the KPK in connection with the sting operation.

Earlier, KPK confirmed conducting a sting operation involving Unsoed’s rectorate officials. Those detained include Unsoed Rector Prof. Akhmad Sodiq, Academic Affairs Vice Rector Prof. Noor Farid, and Student Affairs Vice Rector Prof. Norman Arie Prayogo.

The operation involved suspected receipt of money linked to the university’s new-student admissions process. Under Indonesia’s Criminal Procedure Code, the KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of people detained in the sting operation.
