Katie Suarez was attacked Oct. 30 while jogging in Brooklyn.

The NYPD said it arrested a New York City teacher's aide Saturday in connection with the killing of Katie Suarez, who was stabbed while jogging in Brooklyn last week.

Sayed Mohassib, 27, was arrested after detectives allegedly developed evidence they say placed him at the scene of the attack, the police said. He has been charged with second-degree murder, according to police.

Katie Suarez is seen in a photo released by the New York Police Department.

Suarez, 28, was stabbed in the neck on Oct. 30 while jogging along the Belt Parkway waterfront in Brooklyn. She succumbed to her injuries three days later.

She called her father around 8 p.m. Friday to tell him she was about a half mile from home, according to police.

When she did not arrive back home, her parents went looking for her, and her father found her stabbed in the neck, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny.

Mohassib currently works as a teachers aide at a Brooklyn public elementary school that is near the crime scene, a source with knowledge of the investigation told ABC News.

He briefly worked for the NYPD before being removed for psychological reasons, the source said. He was later discharged from the Marines for mental health issues and was unsuccessful in an attempt to rejoin the NYPD, according to the source.

No attorney information was available and a motive was not immediately revealed by investigators.
