Green Lantern's New Superpower Showcased By DC

One of the DC Universe's best Green Lanterns unveils a new power that allows him to see what nobody else can. The Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum has existed as a primordial force since the dawn of the DC Multiverse, but it has evolved from an untamed cosmic anomaly into a highly organized intergalactic system. It wasn't until recent history that the Guardians of the Universe and various cosmic factions began segmenting the spectrum into different color-coded factions. This organization has drastically accelerated in recent years with events like the emergence of hidden frequencies like the Ultraviolet Lanterns and Fractal Lanterns and the birth of the unified Chrome Lantern Corps.

Earth's Green Lanterns have cemented themselves as indispensable assets. Sector 2814 is universally recognized as the most volatile area of the cosmos, and therefore the human ring-wielders have been forced to act as the thin green line keeping the universe from tearing itself apart. Their unique human capacity to harbor intense emotions while maintaining willpower has made Sector 2814 the heart of the galaxy. Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, Jessica Cruz, Jo Mullein, Simon Baz, and Guy Gardner have all adopted key roles in protecting 2814 and the universe as a whole and have left a bigger mark than most other Lanterns.

Given their special place in Lantern lore, human Green Lanterns enjoy the privilege of developing unique abilities that other power ring wearers aren't acquainted with.

After absorbing the powers of all the Justice League, Mister Terrific annihilates the alien Scavengers and prepares to kill Kanjar Ro, but Guy Gardner stops him. Since he can see emotions thanks to his Allsight power, Guy Gardner asks Mister Terrific to spare Kanjar Ro's life, arguing that the poor villain is overcome with fear, glowing yellow and covered in tiny versions of himself made of pure panic. Michael Holt's immense boost of power likely had the same effect on the other Scavengers, but they didn't even have the chance to spawn their fear representations before Mister Terrific murdered them in cold blood.

Guy Gardner's Allsight power grants him mastery over the entire Emotional Spectrum. The Alpha energy Guy absorbed during the DC K.O. tournament allows him to transform into a Chrome Lantern able to perceive and channel the reborn Emotional Entities, as well as pluck individual components of emotion at will. Just like he can literally see emotions emerge in everyone around him, he can use rage energy to blast enemies away, fear to bind them, and compassion to pacify threats. Alongside a direct pipeline to the forces of creation, Guy's Allsight power is a radar that cuts through physical boundaries and ensures that no cosmic entity or motivation can ever be hidden.

The DC Universe Must Be Secretly Brimming With Color

When his Allsight vision is activated, a simple walk through a superhero meeting might become an overwhelming kaleidoscopic experience for Guy Gardner. Superman would likely look like a blinding radiant sun overflowing with the blue light of unlimited hope washing over everyone around him, and Wonder Woman must be covered in violet and indigo light. The Justice League's villain amnesty plan would only overwhelm Guy further, as Lex Luthor would radiate orange light and other former criminals would flood the Justice League's headquarters with red, orange, yellow, and even black energy.

A trip to Gotham City would also be quite an experience for Guy Gardner's senses, as it would become an unbearable landscape dominated by the choking yellow light of fear, pulsing erratically from Arkham Asylum and spilling out into the rain-slicked streets like thick smog. The tragic irony is that for a hot-headed brawler who spent his life masking his own vulnerability behind sheer bravado, the universe has forced Guy Gardner to look directly into everyone else's souls. While Guy can toggle this extravisible spectrum off to preserve his own sanity, having access to these hidden frequencies gives the DC Universe an entirely new dimension.
