Death From Above 1979 Announce New Album Private Lives, Confirm 2027 Tour Dates

Death From Above 1979 have announced their new album, Private Lives, and revealed that their previously announced fall tour is postponed to 2027. As a preview of the upcoming record, the band released the opening title track. Stream it below.

The announcement comes as Death From Above 1979 celebrate 25 years together. Private Lives will be released January 29th, 2027 via the drum-and-bass dance-punk duo’s own label Last Gang/MNRK. The 10-track album was created out of a retrospective moment for the band. In 2024, they embarked on a 20th anniversary tour for their debut album You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine as well as playing shows commemorating the 10-year anniversary of their second album, The Physical World. Upon their return, Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler unearthed unused, cherished demos and drew from their history and experience to assemble the tracks for Private Lives.

A press release describes the new album as “invigorating and surprisingly serpentine” and “brimming with megawatt boldness,” with Grainger’s vocals stepping to the front more than ever. Fans can pre-order the album here.

“After the anniversary shows, we were at once kinda sick of celebrating ourselves but also re-grounded in the true foundational sound of the band,” Grainger said in a statement. Keeler offered, “You can really hear the confidence in (Grainger’s) voice, and that inspired me to make more space for him. We used to try and cram everything at all times, now we can let each other breathe.”

Death From Above 1979 will be touring North America in 2027 to support the album. The 30-date “Private Lives Tour” kicks off February 2nd in Tempe, Arizona at The Marquee. The band hits Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, Brooklyn, New York, Chicago, and many other cities. The tour comes to a close March 31st in Seattle at The Crocodile. Tickets are now available via Ticketmaster and the band’s official website.

With the single “Private Lives,” the duo unleashes maniacal overdriven bass and searing drums in a tune where every component is in the red. In a statement, the band said the track is “a declaration of privacy in an era of overexposure,” but ultimately “a ripping rock song with maniacal riffs!”

Death From Above 1979’s most recent studio album was 2021’s Is For Lovers. They released three reimagined versions of songs from their 2004 debut LP, You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine, in 2024.
