For Sanju Samson, being in a 'pressure-cooker situation' has been a perennial challenge. In some ways, he was responsible for it too. A precocious talent, Samson has often found the backing of former cricketers. Yet, he could not get consistent opportunities as the big runs would not come on a regular basis. That changed at the T20 World Cup 2026, where Sanju Samson played three important knocks in successive matches, including the final. However, a lean patch followed. On the tours of Ireland and England, Samson failed to make an impact. With the rise of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the opener from Kerala had one extra challenge to face. However, he answered his critics in style in Ranchi on Friday, scoring an 82 off 41 balls.

With the latest knock, his detractors are bound to stay silent for some time.

"When runs aren't flowing, what is the response? You did respond with a fine innings. What was the point of difference in this innings as compared to your last four in this format?" the broadcasters asked Samson after his knock.

"Nothing. I don't think so. I think being a professional cricketer playing for India, I think you definitely take care of the professional side of it. You do your preparation, you do your practice, you do your training, you do everything possible in your hands," Samson said.

"But to be very honest, I think we all know that in this format, the result isn't in your hands; there is only one way to go. So you cannot say I have had three bad innings; let us take some time, let us build my innings and then we will see," Samson added.

"So that is totally fine and I am taking the blame on myself. I don't blame anyone else for not scoring runs, actually. That is my job and I try to do it every time I step out onto the ground," Samson said.

With his ninth half-century in his 74th T20I, Samson has ensured that he will get many more opportunities to step out onto the ground regularly in the future.
