Indonesia bolsters global halal cooperation with four countries

Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has strengthened international cooperation on halal product assurance with four countries: Argentina, Brazil, Spain, and Bulgaria.

According to an official statement issued on Tuesday, BPJPH signed Recognition Agreements (RAs) with three halal certification bodies: Halal Approval South America S.A. from Argentina, Halal Approval South America Serviços de Certificação Ltda. from Brazil, and Halal Safety Certification S.L. from Spain.

The agency also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Grand Mufti’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria in Jakarta on Monday (September 28).

BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said the move is part of efforts to expand Indonesia’s international halal cooperation network while strengthening the integration of the global halal product assurance ecosystem.

He underscored that international cooperation in halal product assurance must ensure that every partner has accountable capacity, systems, and governance.

He said this is essential because strengthening cross-border halal networks involves not only mutual recognition but also trust in the processes and systems operated by each party.

“Halal is about transparency and accountability. Therefore, we must ensure that our partner halal bodies have a verifiable presence, resources, and systems,” he said.

To uphold the principles of transparency and accountability, BPJPH must verify the existence of its partners’ facilities and offices, as well as their human resources, certification systems, and procedures.

The partnership with the Grand Mufti’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria is expected to broaden mutual understanding and strengthen synergy in developing the halal ecosystem in both Indonesia and Bulgaria.

Haikal noted that strengthening international cooperation is closely linked to the growth of the global halal industry, adding that halal is no longer viewed merely as a religious requirement but has evolved into a trend, a label, and a standard in international trade.

He added that expanding Indonesia’s global halal partnership network must be accompanied by efforts to strengthen the halal product assurance system.

“This is vital to make the national halal system more compatible with developments in the global halal ecosystem while also providing certainty for businesses engaged in cross-border trade,” he said.
