Real Madrid defender suffers injury on international duty

Real Madrid have confirmed that defender Ibrahima Konaté has suffered a collateral ligament injury to his right leg.

The Spanish club released the medical update on Thursday, September 24, following tests conducted by the Real Madrid Medical Services.

The club statement read,

“Following the tests carried out today on our player, Ibrahima Konaté, by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a collateral ligament injury in his right leg. Awaiting progress."

Konaté sustained the injury while on international duty with France. He reportedly felt discomfort during training and subsequently left the national-team camp. He has now been ruled out of France's upcoming Nations League fixtures during the international break.

The 27-year-old has made a strong start to his career at Real Madrid and has established himself as a regular in the team's defence since arriving from Liverpool during the summer. Real Madrid have not provided a specific recovery timeline. The club's statement simply says his condition will continue to be monitored, meaning the extent of his absence will depend on his progress over the coming days.

Reports from Spain indicate that the initial assessment does not point to a serious injury, with Konaté potentially targeting a return when Real Madrid resume competitive action after the international break. However, the club has yet to officially confirm a return date.

The injury is another concern for the Galacticos defensive options, particularly with the club entering an important period of the season. Real Madrid will continue to monitor Konaté's recovery before determining when he can return to action.
