President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy ways to strengthen bilateral ties across various fields, especially at the commercial and economic levels.

During a phone call initiated by Zelensky on Friday, August 14, 2026, President Sisi agreed to maintain joint cooperation for increasing joint trade exchange, while exploring existing cooperation opportunities in promising sectors to serve the interests of both countries, according to Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy.

The two sides also tackled the latest developments in the Middle East, where President Sisi highlighted Cairo’s ongoing efforts for de-escalating regional tensions.

In this regard, President Sisi emphasized the importance of resolving these tensions through peaceful means to maintain regional peace and stability.

President Sisi also called for concerted regional and international efforts to halt the current escalation in the region, taking into account its negative impacts on security, stability, and international trade.

Meanwhile, Zelenskyy hailed Egypt’s endeavors in this respect, saying he agrees with President Sisi’s view on the need to reduce the current escalation and tensions.

The Ukrainian president briefed President Sisi on the latest developments regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war, commending Egypt’s keenness to end the conflict.
