Alcon Eyes UK Series Adaptations Of ‘Insomnia’, ‘Prisoners’ & ‘P.S. I Love You’ After Launch Of Diego Piasek-Run International Studio Arm

EXCLUSIVE: Alcon, the company behind Practical Magic 2 and Blade Runner 2049, is heading into Mipcom with a new international studio division and plans to adapt a number of its movies into UK series.
Earlier this summer, Alcon Media Group launched Alcon International Studios with former Amazon exec Diego Piasek as President. Piasek, who most recently co-founded unscripted sports studio Offline Sports, will work closely with Alcon COO Scott Parish and Ben Roberts, head of Alcon Television Group, to expand its presence in the UK and Europe.
It will launch its first slate at Mipcom next week with First Woman, starring Andrea Riseborough and Ashley Walters, which was recently ordered by ITV.
Alcon International Studios was set up to partner with local talent, producers, broadcasters, studios and financiers and originate and develop projects globally, while also bringing international properties and talent to the U.S.
Deadline understands that Piasek and the team will explore UK series adaptations of Alcon IP including movies such as Christopher Nolan’s Insomnia, which starred Robin Williams and Al Pacino, Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler-led romantic drama P.S. I Love You, Denis Villeneuve-directed crime thriller Prisoners, which starred Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman-led post-apocalyptic Western The Book of Eli, and Kate Hudson-led rom-com Something Borrowed.
Alcon International Studios was also involved in organizing the international co-financing package for the TV reboot of Point Break with Studiocanal partnering with AMC on the series.
“We’re very excited about what AIS represents for Alcon’s next chapter. Building on Alcon’s legacy, we see a tremendous opportunity to create a dynamic global television platform and to partner with exceptional creators across the UK and Europe to bring ambitious, distinctive stories to audiences around the world,” said Alcon co-founders and co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
“Our vision for AIS is to become a deeply integrated, long-term presence across the UK and Europe—partnering with exceptional talent, backing emerging voices, and crafting locally rooted stories with global resonance,” added Piasek. “Alcon has built its reputation on independence, creative freedom, and bold storytelling. We’re bringing that same entrepreneurial spirit to the international marketplace.”
