Mustafizur Rahman Set For Long-Awaited Big Bash League Debut

Translate

Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman is set to make his Big Bash League (BBL) debut after signing with Melbourne Renegades as a replacement for the injured Jason Behrendorff. The 31-year-old has played 331 T20 matches around the world and claimed 423 wickets, but is yet to feature in the BBL. The Renegades moved to secure his services after Behrendorff was ruled out for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury, with Mustafizur expected to add both experience and variety to their bowling attack. However, Mustafizur will miss the Renegades' opening fixture against Perth Scorchers in Chennai due to his commitments in the ILT20.

The Bangladesh pacer said he was excited about the prospect of playing at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where the Renegades are scheduled to face Sydney Sixers on January 1 and Melbourne Stars on January 4.

"I am looking forward to playing in the BBL for the first time with the Melbourne Renegades. It will be special to play at the MCG as my home ground, and I'm excited to join my teammates and bring my experience to the squad," Mustafizur said in a club statement.

New Renegades coach Luke Ronchi expressed his delight at signing the experienced Bangladesh quick, who joins a squad that already includes overseas recruits Jonny Bairstow and Michael Bracewell.

"Mustafizur is a proven match-winner in T20 cricket all over the world. His ability to take wickets in both the powerplay and at the death is exactly what we wanted in our attack," Ronchi said.

The development comes shortly after Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf signed with Adelaide Strikers, ending his long association with Melbourne Stars.
