‘Sorry Rassie’: Leon Schuster asks for forgiveness

Leon Schuster has apologised to Rassie Erasmus over a scathing Facebook post in which he criticised the Springboks coach and players for their disappointing 42-38 loss against the Wallabies.

The actor and comedian, an avid rugby fan, has released multiple Springbok anthems over the years, including his latest, Miljoene Hande vir Rassie.

LEON SCHUSTER SORRY OVER RASSIE OUTBURST

On his Facebook account, Leon Schuster profusely apologised for his Facebook outburst targeting the Springboks and coach Rassie Erasmus.

He shared: “I am very sorry about my emotion-loaded post about the Springbok Wallabies test. I don’t seek attention – I was raised humbly. But I don’t like it when we lose to ‘weaker’ teams. Because the Springbok emblem beats fiercely in my heart. I take the slaps because I am used to them.

To the coach, he continued: “Sorry, Rassie – we have come a long way, and I just have the greatest respect for you. 

He added: “Life lesson at 75: Don’t let your emotions get away with you”

WHAT DID HE SAY ABOUT THE SPRINGBOKS?

Over the weekend, Leon Schuster took to his Facebook account to leave a scathing post directed at Rassie Erasmus, which read: “SHAME on the PRIDE of the SPRINGBOK! You do not ‘gamble’ if you are no 1, if you are the holder of the WORLD CUP! 

Leon let rip on Rassie, adding: “I predicted the fiasco, I took a lot of criticism in my film career, and Rassie is NOT above criticism! This was a WEAK team, rested – too late, too little!

The comedian also found fault with Andre Esterhuizen, continuing: “Wrong captain, wrong plan. And this against the Wallabies that did tremendous damage against the Boks today!”

In the comments section, some agreed with Leon Schuster’s sentiments, while others claimed his criticism was too harsh.

Leon defended his comments, adding: “My passion is the Boks, and that defeat hurt me deeply”.

His outburst comes months after he released Springbok anthem, Miljoene Hande vir Rassie.

In it, the comedian praises the Boks boss.

He said of the song, “Rassie is the lion of the rugby jungle. He doesn’t get pursued; he pursues with his unorthodox methods and his will to persevere. That is my man, Rassie.”
