Tamil actor Sathyaraj's daughter Divya Sathyaraj has filed a Rs 1 crore defamation suit against actor Bayilvan Ranganathan before the Madras High Court. The case follows remarks allegedly made about her after she spoke about marriage and relationships in a YouTube interview.The daughter of actor Sathyaraj has alleged that Bayilvan Ranganathan made false and defamatory statements. Justice K. Govindarajan Thilakavathi heard the matter on Thursday, September 24, as reported by ANI.The Madras High Court granted interim protection to Divya Sathyaraj. The court restrained Bayilvan Ranganathan from circulating the allegedly objectionable statements. Google LLC, Facebook India Online Services Private Limited and X Corp were also directed to prevent dissemination of the statements through their platforms.

Divya Sathyaraj's comments on marriage

The dispute reportedly began after Divya Sathyaraj spoke about marriage during an interview with a YouTube channel. She expressed her view that couples should remain together because of their love for each other.“They should be together because they are crazy about each other, not because they are married… I don’t believe in this corporate wedding of getting married on the basis of religion, horoscope, and so on.

In fact, I don’t have a horoscope at all because my father does not believe in such things," she said.Bayilvan Ranganathan subsequently addressed Divya Sathyaraj's comments in an interview on the YouTube channel Puthiya Sinthanai.Divya Sathyaraj has alleged that the remarks made about her during that interview were false and defamatory. The allegations are part of the defamation proceedings currently before the Madras High Court.

Divya Sathyaraj seeks Rs 1 crore damages

According to The Hindu reports, Divya Sathyaraj has sought Rs 1 crore in damages from Bayilvan Ranganathan and Mohideen. Mohideen is the proprietor of the Puthiya Sinthanai YouTube channel.The lawsuit also seeks 12% interest on the claimed damages. Divya Sathyaraj has requested that the interest be calculated from the date of filing the suit until the amount is realised.Her plea also seeks a permanent injunction against Bayilvan Ranganathan.

The requested order would prevent him from making, publishing, broadcasting or circulating statements that Divya Sathyaraj alleges are defamatory.

Google, Facebook and X named in plea

The lawsuit also names Google LLC, Facebook India Online Services Private Limited and X Corp. Divya Sathyaraj has sought interim directions concerning the allegedly objectionable interview and statements.She has requested that the platforms be prevented from continuing to host or circulate the material.

The Madras High Court has now directed the platforms to prevent dissemination of the statements while the proceedings continue.

Madras High Court grants interim relief

During the hearing, Divya Sathyaraj was reportedly represented by counsel D. Ravichander. The court found that a prima facie case had been established for granting interim protection.According to the court's observations, the alleged statements could cause significant harm to Divya Sathyaraj's reputation and goodwill.

The court also found that the balance of convenience favoured granting interim relief.Meanwhile, earlier in June this year, Sathyaraj defended his daughter as several AI generated images of her started spreading online, sparking rumours about a secret wedding and children. He wrote on X, "Respected Press and Media Family, Vanakkam! There are a lot of rumours about my daughter, Nutritionist Ms. Divya Sathyaraj on social media.
