GEORGE TOWN: Three unlicensed businesses operated by foreigners in Batu Maung and Bayan Lepas were sealed during an enforcement operation.

The operation, dubbed Ops Tegas, was carried out by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) Licensing Department and Enforcement Department yesterday.

Two barbershops along Jalan Baru Batu Maung and a food premises in Taman Melati, Jalan Tun Dr Awang, were targeted during the operation.

MBPP seized business equipment from all three premises and ordered their immediate closure by sealing their main entrances.

The operation involved personnel from MBPP's Licensing Department, Enforcement Department, and Corporate Communications and Public Relations Division.

"Enforcement action will continue to ensure businesses within its administrative area comply with licensing regulations and conditions.

"The action is aimed at ensuring regulatory compliance and safeguarding the well-being of the urban environment," it said in a social media post.
