Chelsea Lose 1-0 At Sunderland As Brighton Climb To Second Spot After 2-0 Win Over Brentford
Sunderland pulled off a deserved upset at the Stadium of Light, beating Chelsea 1-0 thanks to an Enzo Le Fée penalty in the 36th minute.
Brian Brobbey was a constant menace for the hosts and won the decisive penalty by outmuscling Levi Colwill.
Sunderland’s intensity, pressing, and physicality disrupted Chelsea throughout, with Brobbey causing particular problems for the Blues’ defence.
Chelsea controlled more possession but created little of clear quality and missed notable chances, including a free header from Morgan Rogers, and Cole Palmer had a penalty appeal turned down after a challenge near the edge of the area.
Substitutions (including Estevão early in the second half) failed to spark a recovery as Sunderland defended resolutely and threatened on the counter.

Diego Gómez opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a spectacular left-footed strike from outside the box into the top corner.
Brentford were reduced to 10 men in the 23rd minute when Igor Thiago was sent off for violent conduct following a VAR review.
Pascal Groß then converted a 42nd-minute penalty, after a foul on Luka Vušković, to make it 2-0 before half-time.
The result extends Brighton’s excellent form under Fabian Hürzeler and moves them to 22 points, seven wins, one draw, two losses after 10 games).
