Strong waves wash sea turtle ashore at Phuket’s Kamala Beach


PHUKET — 18 Septemebr 2026, Lifeguards rescued a sea turtle after strong waves and currents washed the sea turtle ashore at Kamala Beach in Kathu district on Thursday evening.
The Kamala Beach lifeguard team found the turtle stranded on the beach after it was swept ashore by rough seas.
Lifeguards immediately examined the turtle and provided initial care. The turtle appeared weak, prompting officers to contact relevant agencies for further assistance.
Officials from the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources and the Sirithara Marine Animal Rescue Center subsequently took the turtle into their care for a health examination and close monitoring.
The turtle was identified as an olive ridley sea turtle. Officials believe it was stranded amid strong waves and powerful currents in the area.
The turtle will remain under rehabilitation and medical observation until it is considered fit to proceed with the next steps, including possible release, according to officials.
