Nickel Industries, UPN Yogyakarta welcome 2026 scholarship recipients

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Nickel Industries Foundation and Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta welcomed five first-year students selected for the 2026 Nickel Industries Scholarship after a competitive selection process.
“We recognize that this achievement is shared with your families and university lecturers, and we look forward to following your progress and celebrating your future success,” Nickel Industries Chief Operating Officer Tony Green said here Thursday.
Green congratulated the recipients, saying the scholarship would support their education and career development.
The recipients are studying Metallurgical Engineering, Geophysical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering and International Relations, he said.
The selection process included administrative screening and interviews held on September 1-2, 2026.
Candidates were assessed on academic potential, personal qualities, leadership attributes and commitment to community development.
The scholarship program at UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta expands an education initiative Nickel Industries previously established in partnership with Universitas Hasanuddin.
The program has provided educational support to 30 scholarship recipients since its launch in 2024, according to the company.
Nickel Industries Chief Financial Officer for Indonesia Mining Operations Vijay N. G. Nair said education could provide opportunities and support long-term human resource development.
“We encourage you to make the most of this opportunity, continue learning and growing, and develop into future leaders who can make meaningful contributions to your communities, regions and Indonesia,” Nair said.
UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni Relations and Partnerships Hendro Widjanarko welcomed the program and highlighted the importance of university-industry cooperation in preparing students for the workforce.
Such cooperation should include not only financial support, but also competency development, industry exposure and closer alignment between higher education and employment needs, he said.
The five recipients are from Sulawesi and are the first students to receive the Nickel Industries Scholarship under the program’s expansion to UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta.
The expansion provides more opportunities for students from Sulawesi to pursue higher education at the university, Nickel Industries said.
