Chess Olympiad 2026 Day 5: India secures nervy win over Netherlands but women lose to Poland

India celebrated a pivotal 3-1 victory over the Netherlands in the open category, thanks to impressive wins by R. Praggnanandhaa and D. Gukesh.

R. Praggnanandhaa and D. Gukesh secured crucial wins over Anish Giri and Erwin L’Ami respectively, to help India seal a 3-1 win over Netherlands in the open category in round five of the 46th Chess Olympiad.
Meanwhile, the women slumped to a 1.5-2.5 loss to Poland after R. Vaishali was outplayed by Aleksandra Maltsevskaya. Vantika Agrawal, Divya Deshmukh and Koneru Humpy registered draws in their matches.
