Two people beat a man to death with an iron before calling police and pretending they had found the body.

Zbigniew Chlebek, 66, and Beata Walczak, 58, were convicted of murdering their victim in a 'brutal and repeated' attack in Shipley, West Yorkshire.

The callous couple called police on the morning of April 22, 2026, and said: 'I don't know what's happened, all I know is that there is a man lying here.. and, well, he's dead.'

Chlebek went on to tell the call handler: 'I've only just woken up, gosh, I don't know how what's happened before, but he's not breathing at all and he is cold.'

Officers discovered Jaroslav Daniszewski, 43, on the living room floor having suffered significant injuries to his head and face.

A broken and blood-stained iron was also found by police.

Prosecutor Jason Pitter told the court that the call was 'about a day and a half too late', alleging Mr Daniszewski died on the evening of April 20.

They were found guilty of murder on Wednesday, October 28, following a trial at Bradford Crown Court.

Zbigniew Chlebek, aged 66, told a police call handler that he had discovered the victim's body

Beata Walczak, 58, was found guilty of murder at Bradford Crown Court

The morning after the attack, Walczak was seen on CCTV leaving the premises with blood-stained clothes.

When she returned to her own accommodation, she told members of staff that Mr Daniszewski had 'died in her arms'.

She claimed she had been drinking at the flat with three other men, including Mr Daniszewski, but had then gone to sleep.

When she woke up, she said Mr Daniszewski was dead on the floor and bleeding, Yorkshire Live reported.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Matt Holdsworth from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said: 'This investigation centred on a sustained assault in which Jaroslav was subjected to a prolonged assault with an iron and then left unconscious by those responsible.

'Rather than seeking help for a gravely injured man, the defendants left him to die.

'The evidence gathered by the investigation team demonstrated not only the severity of the attack but also the deliberate failure of the offenders to provide or summon assistance when it was clear the victim was in urgent need of medical attention.

'The conviction of those responsible is the result of meticulous investigative work by the Detectives in partnership with forensic scientists involved and reflects our determination to secure justice for victims of serious violence.

'Our sincere condolences remain with Jaroslav's loved ones at this time and hope that the verdicts today provide some comfort.'
