KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — Three warehouse blocks were completely destroyed and 12 vehicles burnt in a fire at Mogoputi Industrial Park Phase 2 in Penampang, Sabah, last night.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which broke out at about 10pm, Sinar Harian reported.

Penampang Fire and Rescue Station chief Zeno Tingalan said the station received an emergency call at 10.29pm, and 13 personnel were dispatched to the site, about three kilometres away.

“Initial information from the caller stated that the fire involved an electrical distribution board.

“However, upon arrival, the firefighters found three warehouse blocks storing plastic goods, rubber hoses and paper fully engulfed in flames,” he was quoted as saying when contacted today.

Zeno said reinforcements from the Kota Kinabalu and Putatan fire stations were also deployed to help put out the blaze.

According to the Malay daily, he said firefighters used water from their engines and nearby hydrants, and once the fire was brought under control, an inspection found that 12 vehicles had also been burnt.

The vehicles included vans, four-wheel drives, motorcycles and lorries.

The fire was fully extinguished at 6.16am before the operation ended, after firefighters made sure there were no further hazards at the site.
